Detroit is coming to a city near you -Source

Detroit's bankruptcy is about numbers: a 26 percent drop in population since 2000, 78,000 abandoned properties, $10 billion in underfunded pension and health care obligations for public employees and billions more in bond and other debt that make it impossible to pay for adequate city services.

But the real bankruptcy is moral and intellectual – and it affects not only Detroit but almost all of America's greatest cities and most states. Type "pension tsunami" into a search engine, read and weep. You'll see that Detroit's issues are only slightly worse than other cities and states around the nation, with balance sheets dragged down by legacy costs and ballooning debt.

A study released earlier this year commissioned by the city of Baltimore, for example, said it is on a path to financial ruin and requires major reforms to avoid bankruptcy. And according to a Pew Center on the States report this year on 30 cities in the most populous metropolitan areas, they have "74 percent of the money needed to fully fund their pension plans over the long run but only 7.4 percent of what was necessary to cover their retiree health care liabilities as of fiscal 2009, the latest year with data available for all pension plans of all 30 cities."

And Detroit isn't even in the worst shape on health care costs – some of the largest expenses faced by each jurisdiction in the country -- according to the report. In terms of underfunding per household, New York ($22,857) and Boston ($18,962) are both worse off. Detroit ($15,682) was third worst, with San Francisco ($13,487) and Baltimore ($10,208) rounding out the top five.

The treasuries of state and local governments, which have $3 trillion in unfunded pension liabilities to public employees, weren’t clobbered by the recession. As Frank Keegan wrote for State Budget Solutions in December 2012, General Revenues in all the states as of 2011 were up $590 billion, or 56 percent, over the previous 10 years despite the recession, according to his analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data.

Neither were their elected leaders misled by erroneous fiscal reports – if anything, they tried to mislead the public, and still do, with overly optimistic investment rates of return that allowed them to shortchange pension funds. The problem was that elected officials acted like a herd of intellectual lemmings, choosing not to accept facts that did not correspond to their worldview of ever expanding government.

They built convention centers and hotels for those convention centers and subsidized expensive condos and other real estate projects that either never met financial expectations or failed. Worse, they also padded pension and health care benefits for public workers without the means to pay for them. And to make up for the revenue that failed to materialize from those projects, they raised taxes over and over again, often so high that people started trickling out until one day there were more takers than makers and all the people who championed those causes had failed up the food chain to higher office or lucrative private sector jobs that depended on taxpayer dollars.

That intersection of folly and an empty checkbook is where a lot of governments stand today. Detroit just happens to be in the worst shape. The only way to start fixing the problem is if more elected officials act like Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. The Democrat should be praised for commissioning the study noted above that laid out reforms necessary for the city to thrive and for promoting an economic agenda to make it happen. Bankruptcy just didn't happen to Detroit. It was a choice. And it will be the choice of more municipalities unless elected officials around the country fight the "gimme" culture whose manifestation can now be seen in the 58-minute wait time for police in Detroit, in its broken lights, its lawless streets and thousands of vacant, crumbling homes.

Much of Pope's message ignored by lame stream media as matter of "National Security"

---

The main (lame) stream media for the most part tried to ignore the most important part of Pope Francis' message in Brazil. Though in many cases it exists in the headline "Pope urges Catholic faithful to shun materialism" the body of the article ignores that message in favor of focusing instead on drug abuse.

Why would the establishment / corporate media attempt to ignore the message to "shun materialism"?

Because the United States #economy, as well as much of the rest of the world, DEPEND heavily on unabated consumerism and the accumulation of ever more #debt to survive [hence the lust for those Chinese consumers]. Like it or not our bogus, strictly debt based, #fiat manipulated, economy depends on the debt slavery / serfdom of the many to benefit the few.

---

Definitions of #consumerism on the Web:

the theory that an increasing consumption of goods is economically beneficial

Consumerism is the equation of personal happiness with consumption and the purchase of material possessions

---

I have written pretty extensively on the evils of consumerism two of which can be seen here and here.

And here is one article I found which gives a bit more attention to this important message.

---

RIO DE JANEIRO — Hundreds of thousands of Roman Catholics packed Rio's Copacabana Beach on an unseasonably cool and stormy night for an encounter with Pope Francis, who again implored the masses to turn toward faith instead of materialism, a recurring theme of his week-long visit to Brazil for World Youth Day.

"Possessions, money and monetary power can give a momentary thrill, the illusion of being happy, but they end up possessing us and making us always want to have more," Francis told the crowd.

Please, beware the seven deadly sins, they are very real indeed..

Isa_51:12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;

Isa_56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

Jer_49:33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it.

Jer_51:43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

Eze_2:1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

Eze_2:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.

Eze_2:6 And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

Eze_2:8 But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.

Eze_3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.

Eze_3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Eze_3:4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

Eze_3:10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.

Eze_3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

Eze_3:25 But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:

Eze_4:1 Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and pourtray upon it the city, even Jerusalem:

Eze_4:16 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment:

Eze_5:1 And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a barber's razor, and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances to weigh, and divide the hair.

Eze_6:2 Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them,

Eze_7:2 Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.

Eze_8:5 Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.

Eze_8:6 He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.

Eze_8:8 Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.

Eze_8:12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

Eze_8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.

Eze_8:17 Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.

Eze_11:2 Then said he unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:

Eze_11:4 Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, O son of man.

Eze_11:15 Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.

Eze_12:2 Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.

Eze_12:3 Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house.

Eze_12:9 Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said unto thee, What doest thou?

Eze_12:18 Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness;

Eze_12:22 Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?

Eze_12:27 Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off.

Eze_13:2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;

Eze_13:17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,

Eze_14:3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

Eze_14:13 Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

Eze_20:4 Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:

Eze_20:27 Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.

Eze_20:46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

Eze_21:2 Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,

Eze_21:6 Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes.

Eze_21:9 Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished:

Eze_21:12 Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh.

Eze_21:14 Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.

Eze_21:19 Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.

Eze_21:28 And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is furbished, to consume because of the glittering:

Eze_22:2 Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations.

Eze_22:18 Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.

Eze_24:2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

Eze_24:16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

Eze_24:25 Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

Eze_25:2 Son of man, set thy face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them;

Eze_26:2 Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:

Eze_27:2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;

Eze_28:2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

Eze_32:2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.

Eze_33:10 Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

Eze_33:12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be
able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.

Eze_33:24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.

Eze_33:30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.

Eze_37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

Eze_37:16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

Eze_38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

Eze_38:14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?

Eze_39:1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

Eze_39:17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.

Eze_40:4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.

Eze_43:7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

Eze_43:10 Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.

Eze_43:18 And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.

Mat_20:18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,

Mat_20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Mat_24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mar_8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Mar_8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Mar_9:9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

Mar_9:12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

Mar_9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

Mar_10:33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:

Mar_10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Mar_13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

Mar_13:34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Mar_14:21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

Mar_14:41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Mar_14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Luk_5:24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

Luk_6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Luk_6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

Luk_7:34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

Luk_9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

Luk_9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

Luk_9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

Luk_9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

Luk_9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Luk_11:30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

Luk_12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Luk_12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

Luk_12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Luk_17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

Luk_17:24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

Luk_17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

Luk_17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Luk_18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Luk_18:31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

Luk_19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Luk_21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Luk_21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Luk_22:22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

Luk_22:48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

Luk_22:69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

Luk_24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Joh_1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

Joh_3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Joh_3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

Joh_5:27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

Joh_6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Joh_6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

Joh_6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

Joh_8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

Joh_12:23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

Joh_12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

Joh_13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

Act_7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Heb_2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Rev_1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Rev_14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

U.S. banks brace for cyberattacks with security drill -Source

Financial firms, feds will join in 'Quantum Dawn 2' drill

It’s a war game, Wall Street-style.

Banks large and small are girding for an elaborate drill this week that will test how they would fare if hackers unleashed a powerful and coordinated attack against them.

The exercise is being called “Quantum Dawn 2,” and though the name sounds like a video game, it’s meant to convey the seriousness of the threat.

Cyberattacks on the banking industry are growing more frequent and sophisticated, and the list of assailants is ever-changing: crime bosses who want money, “hacktivists” who want to make political statements, foreign governments that want to spy on U.S. companies. A successful, widespread attack on the industry would shake confidence in the banking system, and the possibility has banks and regulators on edge.

More dangerous
Jamie Dimon, CEO of the country’s biggest bank, JPMorgan Chase, acknowledged that attacks are becoming more complex and dangerous, no longer carried out by “fairly simplistic” hackers commandeering people’s personal computers.

“Now you’re talking about state-sanctioned folks, hundreds of programmers,” he said in a call with reporters this spring, “taking over not just PCs but servers and mainframes.”

JPMorgan and its peers like Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo have signed up for Thursday’s drill, which is being organized by Wall Street’s biggest trade group, the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

About 50 banks and organizations will participate, including government agencies like the Treasury, the Department of Homeland Security, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the FBI.

Here's the drill
During the drill, bank employees will be stationed at their normal offices, and will be blasted throughout the day with bits of information that could indicate an encroaching hacker attack. They’ll monitor a simulated stock exchange for irregular trading and will be pressed to figure out what’s going on and how to react while sharing information with regulators and each other.

As the name suggests, this isn’t the first Quantum Dawn. The original drill was in November 2011 and attracted scant attention and only about half as many participants. But that was before a wave of cyberattacks last fall, when big banks were forced to temporarily shut down websites after attackers bombarded them with traffic.

At that time, banks probably wouldn’t have listed cyberattacks among their top five risks, said Karl Schimmeck, SIFMA’s vice president for financial services operations. Now, he said, the calculation has changed.

• The barrage: Software giant Symantec calculates that cyberattacks against U.S. businesses jumped 42 percent last year. Banks, though, are reluctant to give more details about how they’re affected, financially or otherwise, for fear of becoming a target, and attacks often go undetected and unreported.

• High alert: Whatever the number, banks and the government are on high alert. President Barack Obama warned about international hacking against the banking industry in February’s State of the Union address. He later met with JPMorgan CEO Dimon, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and other business leaders to discuss the threat.

Big banks have started listing cyberattacks as a potential risk factor in filings for regulators and investors. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which regulates national banks, recently held a call with community bankers to warn them that they’re not free from danger either: Since September, attacks have been increasingly aimed at businesses with fewer than 250 employees, the OCC says.

• Impossible victory? Banks realize the threat isn’t going away. If anything, the possibility of an online attack will grow as customers do more transactions online and banks outsource operations to other companies whose systems might not be as secure.

Says Greg Garcia, a former DHS official who now runs the consulting firm Garcia Cyber Partners: “If someone asks, ‘When are you going to stop cybercrime?’ Well, when are you going to stop crime?”

• Your money: The banks downplay the risk of hackers tapping into any individual customer’s account. For most, that will never happen, the banks say, and even if it did, the customer wouldn’t be responsible. Customers would have to go through certain steps to get their money back, like filing a claim, showing that they weren’t negligently tossing their account information around and giving the bank time to investigate. But federal regulations protect retail customers from being held accountable when money is removed from their accounts without permission.

• A drill by any other name: As for the title of Thursday’s drill — the one that sounds more appropriate for an action movie than a bank security exercise — it came about during the creation of the original drill in 2011, which was organized by the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council.

National security staff at the White House wanted exercises to have names, preferably with two words. According to the FSSCC, a federal government official who was involved in the planning suggested the title after noticing some media reports about the dawn of quantum computing.

Schimmeck points out that a similar exercise in Britain had a title at least as curious: It was called “Waking Shark.”

GOP wants delay in health law's individual mandate

---

Yeah sure you act like this now.. Where were you when this crap was going down? It's obviously an unconstitutional law regardless of what the compromised @USSupremeCourt says.

It's obvious that this law is a ONE PARTY BIPARTISAN law designed as a backdoor #bailout of "suffering" insurance companies.

Personally I would rather see ALL insurance disappear! Before 1920's NO ONE had health insurance! How did we possibly survive? You have used insurance to help inflate another bubble period..

Look at some HISTORY!

In his 2001 book Oxymorons, medical economist J.D. Kleinke described U.S. health care this
way: “A group of highly imaginative, energetic people armed with the world’s largest Markin-Wipe board could not purposefully design a more complex, dysfunctional system if they tried."

In your opinion is this f'ed up F.I.R.E. economy worth destroying America over? You can't save it because it is corrupt BS. Just like our government. All that matters to you people, all of you, is FIAT, not Americans citizens, not anything else.

Your #time has come and gone.. YOU are obsolete.. get over it.

WASHINGTON —
Framing a new argument against President Barack Obama's health care law, congressional GOP leaders called Tuesday for a delay in the law's requirement that individual Americans carry health insurance.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and other senior Republicans told Obama in a letter that his decision last week to grant a one-year delay for employers but leave in place provisions for individuals and families had created many new questions and concerns.

At a Capitol Hill news conference, Boehner vowed to hold another vote this month to remove the individual mandate, arguing that it was necessary to "correct this injustice."

"If businesses can get relief from Obamacare, the rest of America ought to be able to get relief as well," Boehner told reporters. He later added, "We'll have another vote, count on it."

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., called Obama's move last week "stunning."

"I never thought I'd see the day when the White House and the president came down on the side of big business but left the American people out in the cold," Cantor said.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the administration has no intention of delaying the individual mandate. He said the law provides financial aid to low-income Americans and is flexible so that people facing financial hardships aren't punished for going without coverage.

The criticism from top Republicans, Carney said, is "pretty rich coming from leaders who have now voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act going on 40 times, and who promised to do it again, to charge up that hill, only again not to reach the top, rather than focus on the work that the American people want done because they have no alternative."

Asked whether public confidence in the law could be eroded by delays and by the change in the smoking provision, Carney said, "A piece of legislation like this, to be responsibly implemented, needs to be implemented in a flexible way."

Nonetheless, Republicans hope their new argument will gain traction in next year's congressional elections, as the law's big push to cover the uninsured gets underway. Foes are betting the coverage rollout will be full of problems, particularly since about half the states have refused to support the federal effort.

Under the law, middle-class people with no access to job-based coverage will be eligible for subsidized private insurance, while low-income uninsured people will be steered to an expanded version of Medicaid in states that accept it.

The health care law contains coverage requirements for individuals as well as companies with 50 or more workers. Both requirements were originally scheduled to take effect next Jan. 1.

Last week, the White House unexpectedly announced a one-year delay in the employer requirement, saying the administration needed more time to work out technical details that employers find too burdensome. Some saw a political motive, since Republicans have criticized the requirement on businesses as a "job killer."

But administration officials said that the individual mandate would remain in place.

The two requirements are different. While the mandate on individuals is expected to play a major role in getting people to sign up for coverage, the employer requirement is more of a backstop, designed to deter companies from shifting to the government their traditional role in providing health benefits.

The individual mandate applies to virtually every U.S. resident, with exceptions for financial hardship, people who entered the country illegally, and prison inmates. The coverage requirement survived a determined legal challenge by opponents of the health care law. A divided Supreme Court upheld the mandate last year, reasoning that the penalties which enforce it are taxes constitutionally levied by Congress.

Those individual penalties start small - as little as $95 next year - but they build up with time. The Congressional Budget Office estimated last year some 4 million individuals without insurance will pay about $55 billion in penalties over the course of nearly a decade. The overwhelming majority of Americans already have coverage - through an employer, a government program, or by buying their own plan - and will not have to worry about the fines.

The GOP leaders' letter also requested that the administration provide detailed information on the impact of its decision to delay the employer mandate.

U.S. Consumer Borrowing Up As Credit Card Use Rises

---

And yet, even with the "fantastic news" that "more Americans are putting themselves further in debt" the @FederalReserve still refuses to stop manipulating the entire economy.. Seriously, what does this indicate? That things may not be as they seem?

By MARTIN CRUTSINGER 07/08/13 04:49 PM ET EDT AP Source Huffington post

WASHINGTON — Americans increased their borrowing in May at the fastest pace in a year. Borrowing in the category that includes credit cards reached its highest point since the fall of 2010.

Increased borrowing typically means that consumers are feeling more confident.

Americans stepped up their borrowing by $19.6 billion in May compared with April, the Federal Reserve said Monday in its monthly report on consumer credit. That was the biggest jump since a $19.9 billion rise in May 2012.

Total borrowing reached a record $2.84 trillion.

The category that includes credit card use rose $6.6 billion, also the largest gain in a year. Credit card debt reached $847.1 billion, the most since September 2010. Credit card debt remains about 16 percent below its high of $1.02 trillion in July 2008 – just before the financial crisis erupted.

Borrowing for autos and student loans rose $13 billion in May. That was the sharpest increase since February. This category of borrowing has been rising especially fast, driven by loans to pay for college.

The Federal Reserve's consumer credit report does not separate student loans from auto loans. But data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York show that student loan debt has been the biggest driver of borrowing since the Great Recession officially ended. In part, that's because some unemployed Americans have returned to school for training in hopes of landing a job.

More credit card borrowing could help boost consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of economic activity. But some consumers have been hesitant to run up high-interest debt since the recession ended. Some economists say many Americans remain cautious because higher Social Security taxes this year have reduced paychecks for most.

Despite the jump in credit card debt in May, consumers aren't likely to increase their card use to pre-recession levels, said Cooper Howes, an economist at Barclays Research. Credit card debt is known as revolving credit.

"We expect the trends of student loan-driven expansion ... and only small changes in revolving credit to continue in coming months," Howes said.

The measure of card debt in the Fed's report has risen $15.8 billion this year. That compares with annual increases of $25 billion to $50 billion in credit card debt before the Great Recession, which officially began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009.

Rising home prices and steady job growth have helped offset any damage to the U.S. economy from the higher Social Security tax.

Employers added 195,000 jobs in June and many more in April and May than previously thought, the government said Friday. Pay was also up sharply. Over the past 12 months, pay has risen 2.2 percent while consumer prices have increased 1.4 percent.

Consumers boosted their spending from January through March but reduced the pace of their savings to finance it. After-tax income dropped in the first quarter.

That decline reflected, in part, the increased Social Security tax that took effect Jan. 1. A person earning $50,000 a year has about $1,000 less to spend this year. A household with two highly paid workers has up to $4,500 less.

The economy grew at an annual rate of only 1.8 percent in the January-March quarter. Many economists have forecast that growth in the April-June quarter will weaken further to around 1.5 percent. But they think the economy will rebound somewhat in the second half of this year as stronger employment growth fuels more consumer spending.

The Federal Reserve's borrowing report covers auto loans, student loans and credit cards. It excludes mortgages, home equity loans and other loans related to real estate.

Promise, not bragging but..

Left out one more unexpected #blessing that came with the place..

We now live within a couple miles of Downstream Casino

Turns out they have an outdoor concert area and are drawing some pretty good names..

Last week, the evening of July 5th, we sat at our table in the front yard and listened to Willy Nelson live while imbibing, sipping a little wine and relaxing. The concert was followed by a pretty spectacular 25 minute fireworks display to boot.

Looks like we will be getting maybe 6 to 8 free live outdoor concerts per summer that can easily be heard seated in our front yard ;)

Looking forward to Peter Frampton next (Do you feel like we do?)

Update: #God, #prayer, country living, satellite internet, #news and #trading

---

I continue to be quite amazed (and those of you who know me know I'm not easily amazed lol).

Amazed by what? My prayer experiment.. (As first blogged here)

Since that post, and this one with pics of the new yard, good things continue to happen.

Since then I have stumbled into a free riding mower (that I have yet to pick up) and a bunch on free cinder blocks (ditto, not yet picked up) which I intend to build a burn pit with.

Living in the country requires some lifestyle changes. There is SO MUCH to do! Most days I end up sore and tired by the end of the day. However, thankfully there is a lot of instant gratification involved as the property takes shape. And I still thank God pretty much all day, everyday, for the wonderful opportunities He has given me.

1 Thessalonians 5:17
King James Version (KJV)
17 Pray without ceasing.

To me, personally, and I'm certainly not "ordained" or anything lol, "Pray without ceasing" simply means to be forever grateful to God in your heart.

Still dealing with this limited internet access model.. At the moment restricted to 10 gigabytes bandwidth per month.. We had cable for 37 years and before the move I downloaded some software, checked and discovered that using the internet with no changes I was using somewhere around 150 gigabytes of bandwidth per month. So, needless to say, dropping from 150 gigabytes usage to 10 gigabytes has been spooky on the face of it.

I'll be upgrading my bandwidth soon to the max (I think) of 25 gigabytes per month & try to learn to live with that. Of course that's a lot more f'ing worthless fiat too, for the upgrade, bastards..

So lately not even doing a very good job of keeping up with the news either.. But keeping up "enough" to see that everything is still majorly F'ED! LMAO

As a result of the move, and associated life changes, I have changed my trading style a bit for the time being. Before the move I tended to trade m15 / m5 / m1 charts based on higher time frames (ie; h4, daily, maybe h1). Those trades tended to last from a few to several hours on average and on occasion maybe a day or two. At the moment my trades are based on the longer term as I'm looking for OB/OS conditions on a daily basis and, generally speaking, willing to wait a week or two for a move in my favor.

This is subject to change without notice.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and truly wishing all my great trader friends all the success in the world.

New (and improved ;) front yard, back yard and new puppies :)

---

As many of you likely know by now we recently moved. We moved from the city (albeit a small city lol) to the country. We now have 3 acres full of beautiful oak, and other, trees and lots of wildlife. Just discovered a bunch of wild blackberries in the backyard the other day :)

The move was something we have been thinking about for a couple of years now. We have been looking at properties, off and on, for about that length of time. We are very happy with what we ended up finding at a great price.

Much of our decision was based on finance. Thanks to family we had access to a very affordable loan, quite a blessing in and of itself. We went ahead and did a long term loan so we ended up with miniscule mortgage payments and on top of that by moving out of the city and into the country we said goodbye to many of the bills and fees we had previously.

Gone are the water bill (as we have a well now), the mandatory trash pickup bill, the sewer bill is no more (septic tank), No more gas bill. And the associated, somewhat mysterious, "customer charges" are gone as well. The utility companies tack those on our bill and they often represented as much as 40% of the entire bill! Now the city is planning to institute a recycling fee as well at a cost to residents of $3.00 p/month.

$3.00 isn't much f'ing fiat but..

What the idiots do not seem to understand, pretend they don't understand, is that everyone from the federal government, to state government, to county government, to city / municipality and government regulated utility companies continually increase the amount we pay for everything by a small amount at a time. Here in the states this is called "nickle and diming us to death!" It's the cumulative effect of hundreds, or thousands, of "small" bills and or fees that are crushing our economy.. And of course what is initially a $3.00 bill p/month creeps to $5.00 p/month and then $7.00, seemingly forever until one day, without you noticing, that $3.00 p/month bill is now a $15.00 p/month bill!

In my opinion what this country / economy needs is deflation and yet the Federal reserve Bank, with the blessings of our kleptocratic government, continually strive to create inflation. To continually attempt to force the citizens of this country to borrow, spend and invest.

The house is all electric with a wood burning stove that we plan to heat with in the winter months (and plenty of trees to fuel it ;) At some point in the future we plan to look into solar power as well so we can tell Empire District Electric to kiss our ass too.

At any rate all the saving add up to greatly increase our cash flow. (Which is a good thing :)

And the property is just gorgeous ;)

(Please ignore the dates on the pictures.. Camera wasn't set right after battery change ;) Actual date taken today July 2nd, 2013)

Here's the upgraded front yard..

And the new backyard..

And finally the new "farm" puppies (thanks sis!)

Have a great day everyone. Thanks for peeking ;)
